Meeting Junkie No More
I'm an IT graduate so I suppose I do have a slight unfair advantage! It's still confusing for me though, but hopefully shouldn't take too long to get used to the interface.
There's a cute little icon next to the Smiley face when you are posting a reply. That places a Quote box in your typing area. You then copy and paste the person's reply into this box and type yours over or under it. I could be doing it wrong, but that's how I got it to work LOL
BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for that!

It was actually the SOCIETY's Noah video that really got me thinking about how the flood could definitely NOT have been global, etc. etc. That was absolutely the lamest video I have ever seen and had the opposite effect of what they were intending. For their own sakes, I hope they are not even distributing that abomination any more...

I really feel your pain.
My family, luckily, is with me, but I have the same problem with some of my very good friends and it can be very draining.
Your parents being 'in it' for 60 years, I would suspect they are running on auto-pilot. They probably don't even give their thinking or responses even a second thought - or maybe, they unconsciously intuit that to realize that they have been believing a 'lie' for this long would be too painful to contemplate...and resiliency to a shift in worldview at their age may be severely diminished. They may be just content to 'cruise on into' the new system, so close at hand (ugh!)
I hate the Watchtower Society for what it does to people. It destroys their individuality, just deadens their whole self-development, with all its harpings on self-sacrifice and the eternal dangling of the carrot of the 'life to come'. Like I said, I feel your pain.
I think you are doing the right thing to look after yourself first. Some people just cannot be helped, no matter how much we may want to try. When it's your own parents, it must be doubly difficult. Peace to you in your struggle.

Just wondering - did the lion and the lamb lie down peaceably together for the duration of the trip?

I finally Left!
by The Doc 58 ini would like to give the full details of my leaving the jw's, but i don't have a lot of time at this moment.
basically i was raised in the organization and it drove me pretty insane bacause my father was an elder, mother a pioneer, sister a bethelite, etc.
so, i did the whole thing for a long time.

Doc Bob:
"illogical policies" - you are so right with that. They can be blamed for so much that is wrong with this organization and the religion's rotten undercurrent that is in the process of not letting itself be suppressed for very much longer. The more of us that get out from under that spell the better. For some of us, it is later in life, but I think the 'churn' mentioned in the TIME story (another thread) is really starting to take on a life of its own. I know it takes a lot to tell your story and just the fact of your being able to tell it is very encouraging. Unfortunately, I am not at that point yet myself. I know it is very difficult to 'deprogram' and it takes a while. Thank you for sharing.

Mind boggling! I've just downloaded and printed and can hardly believe what the 1937 editions looked like! We all know these tidbits are oh so timely and yet timeless as well....(barf)
Anyhow, what caught my eye was the recipe for unleavened bread for the Memorial on page 308. This couldn't be more timely! I like the end part where it tells me 'it is well to practice a while in making this bread, so as to obtain best results whenever needed. This is a delicious, nourishing and Scripturally correct food for regular use.' Ahem, really? Now, we've got Scripturally correct food? Freaking hilarious!
That's all I had time to see at such a quick glance. Thanks again and keep 'em coming. Food at the proper time, indeed!
